Applications Engineer

Title:  Applications Engineer

Reports to:  Director of Sales

Job Objective:

Working as a bridge between the sales and engineering teams, Application Engineers use customer input and sales information to design complex material handling applications. The applications engineer will assist in developing system opportunities and proposing optimal solutions for our customer base. This goal is to be achieved through conception and equipment estimation and implementation services of a project.  The goal is to meet internal and external expectations through the proposal and presentation phase.


  • Assist sales department in design and cost estimation of various material handling projects
  • Attend initial project kick-off meeting with sales and the customer to collect and analyze required field data in to begin the conception and estimation process
  • Develop initial design drawing concepts using AutoCAD as well as secure multiple competitive estimates of equipment and implementation services for customer solutions.
  • Provide alternative design solutions when necessary to allow for proper functionality of an application
  • Generate timely accurate budgetary and firm proposals at C&D’s target profit margins
  • Support administrative and sales staff in assigned projects
  • Maintain quotation log detailing each application
  • Communicate and maintain positive relationships with internal team as well as C&D’s customers to assist in the overall company goals and customer satisfaction
  • Prepare purchased project for implementation by performing final engineering on any application he/she worked on

Qualifications and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.)
  • 3-5 years of experience in material handling or related industry
  • Well organized, detail oriented, prioritizes and plans work activities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness for local and regional travel when needed

Results will be measured by:

  • Response time from request to completed solution proposal
  • Quote to order ratio
  • Number of quotations generated
  • Gross Profit of orders generated from quotes
  • Accuracy of quotations
